LPG & Condensate Recovery from Congo’s Associated Gas Stream
Summary
Congo-Brazzaville is monetising a historically flared associated-gas resource base (proved gas ? 10 Tcf / 283 bcm) through a three-track strategy: LNG export (Eni’s Congo LNG now the country’s flagship), domestic LPG/butane/propane recovery (Nkossa legacy barge, Banga Kayo onshore plant, SNPC Gas Master Plan), and gas-to-power (~1,500 MW target by 2030, as reported). The strategic tension is structural: LNG and LPG compete for the same associated gas, and the government’s stated policy is “local market first, export the excess” Energy Chamber yet the fiscal incentive (extractive sector = 66.4% of government revenue) and hard-currency needs push toward LNG. The country flared ~64 Bcf in 2022 more than four times its own domestic gas production that year EIA so the recoverable LPG/condensate prize from flare-gas capture is substantial but no public C3+ yield or LPG tonnage figure could be verified; these remain the key data gaps.
